"PROVENANCE" @ CAVE GALLERY FRIDAY JULY 8th featuring DJ BusRider

 This just in:
Next Stop for DJ BusRider is:

"PROVENANCE", Kevin Peterson's debut solo show in Los Angeles at C.A.V.E. Gallery

Kevin Peterson's current series of mixed media acrylic and oil paintings depict children in urban landscapes framed by walls of graffiti - portraying the contrast of the untainted, young and innocent against a backdrop of a worn, ragged, and defiled world. Each piece is an exceptional and stunning work of art - perfectly rendered, uniquely textured and distinctly assembled with panels of corrugated metal.

"These paintings are about trauma, fear and loneliness and the strengththat it takes to survive and thrive. The work is about the varied journeys we take through life. It is about growing up and living in a world that is broken. Support versus restraint, bondage versus freedom, and tension versus slack are all themes that I often visit.

My work deals with isolation, loneliness and longing teamed with a level of optimistic hope. Issues of race and the division of wealth have arisen in my recent work. This work deals with the idea of rigid boundaries, the hopeful breakdown of such restrictions, as well as questions about the forces that orchestrate our behavior."

Kevin Peterson was born in 1979 in Elko, Nevada. His childhood included stints in Nevada, Michigan and Washington. Kevin moved to Texas in 1996 and received degrees in Fine Art and Psychology from Austin College in Sherman in 2001. Kevin now makes his home in Houston, Texas where he works out of Winter Street Studios.

"Provenance" at C.A.V.E. Gallery marks Kevin's third solo exhibition. His artwork has received notable recognition including the Hunting Art Prize Finalist in 2011 and 2008, "Best of Show" at the Bayou City Art Festival in 2010, and "Best Emerging Artist" at the Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival in 2009.

EUTH
"Damaged"

"My work negotiates contemporary city life, exploring a lexicon of images that are over-determined and self-impeded by existing cultural meaning. I use a loose combination of graffiti, illustration and found objects to re-examine and explore existing visual codes through installation. I try to capture the sense of isolation and bombardment I often feel confronted with while in transit within my own city."

EATCHO
"Confining All My Chaos"

"In this current series I am confining all my chaos within familiar figures, giving them both battle armor and scars. I make the work somewhat chaotic for I feel chaotic. I depict characters within the work and experience a story unfold ... reason within the chaos."

Resident DJs Busrider & MrNumberOnderful will be your selectors for the evening.
